Now that baby girl number two is well on her way, we’ve started preparing for Abbie’s big girl room. I have to admit – I’m more excited for this than I was for her nursery. This is the room she’ll have when she starts school, that she may have her very first sleepovers in, that she’ll remember as her childhood bedroom.
Our house has three bedrooms, so to make things easier, we’re moving Abbie into what is now the guest room (and, to be honest, the catch-all room – anyone else do that to their guest room?) and giving the nursery to our newest baby girl. This will allow Abbie to get something new and fun, and I’m hoping it’ll help with the transition to being a big sister. We are hoping to have everything done in there by late August so Abbie can move in well before the new baby comes and she doesn’t feel like her room is being taken away.
I’m so excited to decorate this room for Abbie – a labor of love that’s all for her before baby sister arrives. I snagged her comforter and bedding from the Target Pillowfort line a while back when it was on sale, and it was kind of my jumping off point for everything – lavender, aqua, and some silver accents.
If you saw Abbie’s nursery, you know that her walls were painted lavender – Sassy Lilac from Valspar to be exact. Since I way overbought the paint for that room, we have a ton left and are sticking with that color for Abbie’s new room – we’ll be repainting the nursery.
We ended up deciding on a twin size bed so Abbie can make the most of the space in her new room. I scoured craigslist for weeks and was able to find her a simple headboard (only $20!) and a maple dresser (only $75!) that I’m going to paint white with the help of my mother-in-law. (Thanks Ann!)
As for the rest, a good portion of it is coming from her current room – most of the artwork will come with her and baby girl will get different things on the wall, and I’m planning a fun display of all the Disney princesses for her. I’m so excited to see how it all turns out, and to see if I can handle painting furniture – it’ll be my first time doing it!
Any advice for me on the furniture painting? Would you guys like to see how we end up doing it?
