Tackle Kids Cancer

A few weeks ago, we got the news that one of my good friends has cancer. It was a shock to all of us, and while she has an excellent prognosis and she’s on a good treatment plan, I think we’re all nervous about what that diagnosis means for her and her family. It all got me thinking about how cancer touches so many of us. It’s touched my family as well (with my mom), but thankfully we’re all currently healthy.

Some of the hardest hit are the littlest ones in our lives – children. It’s so easy to take health for granted. During the holiday season when we’re all caught up in the holiday hustle and bustle, we all think about our own lives – but what about those kids that don’t get the chance to just be kids at the holidays? What about all those kids tackling childhood cancer? We cannot forget them at the holidays.

Did you know that only 4% of government research funding goes toward pediatric cancer? I was shocked, and it’s just one of many reasons that Tackle Kids Cancer needs our help, not only this holiday season but year-round. Donating to Tackle Kids Cancer helps with that lifesaving pediatric cancer research and innovative patient care programs. The discoveries made by researchers with Tackle Kids Cancer not only help children in the US but also around the world.

Reading through the stories of these children is equal parts inspiring and sad – and I especially loved the story of Natalie Grace. While Natalie was going through treatment, her older sister Hannah was one of her biggest supporters, even shaving her head to support her sister. I know the bond my girls share already and reading that brought tears to my eyes. (You can head here to find Natalie’s story and others.) No little girls should have to go through that with their sisters – and that’s why this research is so incredibly important. Every single donation makes a difference, whether it’s $1 or $1 million.

Please think about these children while you’re celebrating the holidays this season. We like to make giving part of our holiday traditions, and I know that talking about these kids with my girls will help them understand that giving to others is the best gift of all.
