March Mindset

Over the past few weeks, I’ve realized I’ll be turning 35 this year – in less than 8 months. Something about that just kind of hit me. 35 is the official midpoint of my thirties, and before I know it, 40 will be around the corner.

In thinking about it, I realized that much of my life is exactly the way I’ve wanted it – I have a husband who is my partner in every way, two healthy girls that adore each other, a home of our own, and amazing friends, even if they are far away. I also realized that it was finally time to make good on my promise to myself this year of putting myself first. I feel like as moms, this change is so incredibly hard to make. How do you start to put yourself first when there are so many people in your life that need things from you?

Well, it turns out you just start – you pick yourself up and start doing all the things you know you should and finding time to fit them all in. And that is what March has done for me thus far – given me the reset I needed.

We’re only four days in, but I’ve tracked everything I’ve eaten in those four days. I cannot tell you the last time that happened four days in a row. In those four days, I’ve gotten over 10,000 steps each day and worked out at home twice. I spent my morning preparing breakfasts and lunch for the entire upcoming week. I put snacks together, portioned out salads, and boiled some eggs.

It’s been a long time coming, but I feel motivated and back on track. I feel like my head is clearer with each workout. I always knew I had to keep my nutrition in check in order to lose the weight I wanted, but what I forgot is that the exercise motivates me to do that. I’m hoping that with support, I can keep all of it up. I’m hopeful that when I turn 35, I’ll be a healthier version of myself – a mom who can run after her kids and play tag on the playground. A mom who models healthy habits for her girls – that you can have one cookie, but have some carrots first. A mom who focuses on what our bodies can do rather than what they can’t.

So here’s to March – may it be the start of many things to come.
