  • My 2017 Word of the Year and Goals

My 2017 Word of the Year and Goals

Happy 2017! I know so many people were so ready for the new year to start, but I for one am a little sad to see 2016 go – after all, it’s the year Ella was born and will always hold a special place in my heart. On the other hand, there’s something so refreshing about a new year and a new start on things. I’ve never been a fan of dedicated New Year’s resolutions… because I don’t believe they work. I like to start my goals shortly after I think of them and start each day as the first…

Working Motherhood and Blogging: The Balance

Working Motherhood and Blogging: The Balance

Like many working moms, I often feel there is never ever enough time in a day. It feels like our days are go-go-go from the moment we wake up to the moment we go to bed. There always seems to be something there isn’t enough time for.  Our days start early around here. As a household with two full-time working parents, we’re up by 6:10 every day, and out of the house by 7:15. We’re lucky enough to be able to commute together, but it’s a long commute – to daycare, then to our respective offices. After a long workday,…

    November Goals

    November Goals

It’s time for my monthly goals check, and I’m happy to report that keeping it simple is doing me wonders. I like having only 5 goals to hit every month since it made things so much more attainable. So how did October go? October’s Goals: Create Buttons for my sidebar. So, I technically did this November 1, but I’m counting it as complete because to me, it’s close enough! 12,500 steps every day. Finally did this again! Have a date night with Chris. Chris and I had a movie date to see The Intern. Celebrate my birthday! I had a great day celebrating with…

    Why I Unfollowed Your Blog

    Why I Unfollowed Your Blog

I’m the kind of person who will give almost any blog a chance. It’s pretty easy to do so, since I usually just use Bloglovin’ to organize it, and put it in my “New” category. Many blogs have made it from my “New” category into everyday reads… but some have made me hit the unfollow button. So, why did I unfollow your blog? No common interests If I can’t relate to you, why would I be reading your blog? If you love camping and write about it all the time, I may read your first few because it’s a new…

    How I Read 200+ Blogs a Day

    How I Read 200+ Blogs a Day

As a blogger, one of the best ways to build community is to comment on other blogs. We all have our favorites, and I’m sure you are always discovering new ones, just like I am. There are also lots of ways to follow blogs and bloggers. You have a choice of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, adding a favorite to your browser, keeping a paper list – I’m sure there are tons of ways that I can’t even think of. Of every choice I have, my favorite way to follow is through Bloglovin’. After all, Bloglovin’ allows me to peruse over 200 blogs…

How to Have Good Blogger Karma

How to Have Good Blogger Karma

If you know me in real life… you know I’m a big believer in karma. I’ve always believed that what you put out in the world will come back to you, and try to keep that in mind in my personal and professional life. I just don’t see the point in putting out the negative. One place that good karma pays off in spades? Blogging. In my 5+ years of blogging, I’ve learned a lot, but the number one thing is that community is SO important. Being part of a community is the best part of blogging – making new…

    A WordPress Lesson

    A WordPress Lesson

Some of you may have noticed yesterday that my blog was down (or you didn’t, unless you’re family and check it every day). Anyway, it was. What happened? I updated a plugin.  If you’re on WordPress, you’re probably familiar with that little red notification bubble telling you one of your plugins has an update. Most of them get regular updates and improvements, and it’s never been an issue for me before. I check the box, click update, and go on with my day. Not the case yesterday.   Basically, the developer of one of my plugins (not the one seen…

    Coffee Talk + Blogging Tips

    Coffee Talk + Blogging Tips

Sometimes I wish that we could all just sit down and have coffee together (or tea, or water, or whatever you drink). I know, it’s such a blogger type of thing to say, but it’s totally true. So what would I tell you if we had coffee together? I often forget about instagram.  Just plain old forget, or just not want to do all the work. A lot of people say its their favorite, but i can’t be bothered to write huge long captions on my phone.  And take so many pictures…how do people have so many interesting things to…

    Taking Time to Blog

    Taking Time to Blog

So, it’s totally appropriate that this week’s “One Year and Beyond” topic is making time to blog…because this week has been a doozy and I’ve barely had time to do so.  It’s just been one of those weeks with lots of ups and downs and interruptions.  I feel like I really need a break! So, blogging.  It’s been a part of my life for about 5 years now, but up until about a year or two ago, I didn’t invest a lot of time.  Come to think about it, I doubt many people were even reading the random thoughts I…

    What I Love About WordPress

    What I Love About WordPress

Well, I’m just over a week into my switch to self-hosted WordPress (wordpress.org), and the verdict’s in – I’m so glad I did it.  As you guys know, I was worried.  Would it be as easy as blogger?  Would the transfer experience go okay?  Would I keep all my traffic? The answer to all of the above?  A resounding YES. There are already so many things I love about this platform.  I feel like I have SO much control over the look and feel of my blog, and the interface is so much more professional-looking.  And the plugins?  My goodness,…
