WW Freestyle: First Impressions

Today, after hearing about the changes all week long, we finally got the new Weight Watchers Freestyle program. I’ve heard good things, grumblings, and more, but honestly? I’m really glad the changes are here.

One of the things I love about Weight Watchers releasing program changes at the end of the year is that it gives me a bit of a reset before the new year begins. Because let’s face it – EVERYONE is going to hope on the weight loss train come January 1, and I’m happy to be just a little bit ahead of it.

So, first impressions – as expected, my points target went down, from 30 to 23. I’m honestly not surprised by it, and I’ve done previous Weight Watchers programs with less points, so I’m not worried. Second? SO many things I eat on a regular basis (and things I want to eat more of) are now 0 points. That means if I’m hungry at 9pm, I can have two scrambled eggs and not worry about it. I can use my points for some avocado rather than the chicken breast in my salad. I really think this program is going to give me so much more freedom, which is exactly the intention.

Let’s also be honest here – I’ve been struggling for a little while and looking for some sort of reset. I’m hoping this is it, and I’m committed to tracking everything for the next few weeks to really give the new program a fair shot. I know it’s not going to be easy, but I’m excited for the changes and hope this is just the reset I need. I’m hoping to track my progress a bit more consistently and get back to sharing on the Instagram account I created for Weight Watchers. We’ll see how it goes!

  1. I dont know a lot about the WW program of the past few years, but I like the idea that more foods are 0 points. I wouldn’t expect scrambled eggs to be 0 points, though! I can see why, as It makes sense to lower the daily points but have more 0 points. I would like to see food journals. It’s interesting inspiration-wise to see what others are eating.

  2. I hear you! I am excited about the changes. I’ve lost 100 lbs with the Weight Watchers program and been maintaining for the last 10 years, going up and down about 10 pounds at times. I’m back to working the program full-force to lose a few pounds. It’s always an ongoing challenge. I think the new aspects to Freestyle will make it even easier.
