Late last year, I started to see a lot of people talking about essential oils and how amazing they were. Honestly? I was really skeptical. I thought, okay, here’s another thing the “crunchy” moms are pushing, and I went about my life.
Then, they kept popping up all over the place… and I got curious. I started researching essential oils. I read blog posts about oils. I saw testimonials about oils and how people were using them to take charge of their health. I joined a Facebook group about them and just kind of watched and learned from it for a while. I was still skeptical, but trying to be open minded about it.
Then Abbie got her first ear and sinus infection. We were giving her about four medicines before bed every night, and I hated pumping all that medicine into her. At this point, I had seen and read a lot about essential oils and was pretty close to taking the plunge. Chris and I talked about it once Abbie was in bed, and he gave me the push to go ahead and order my Premium Starter Kit from Young Living. I thought there had to be a way to support our health and immune systems to help us avoid putting so many chemicals in our bodies.
It’s only been two months, but they’ve become a staple in our lives… and it’s about time I shared that with you. Now, while I have become an oil enthusiast, I do want to say that I don’t think these are in any way a replacement for medicine and a doctor’s care. I fully intend on continuing to go to the doctor when we’re sick, getting our vaccinations, etc.
Also, I do want to get this disclosure out of the way – the information I’m sharing is not intended for the treatment or prevention of disease, nor as a substitute for medical treatment, nor as an alternative to medical advice. Use of recommendations is at the choice and risk of the reader. None of the information here has been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Got it? Good.
So, a little background – what exactly are Essential Oils?
Essential oils are the “lifeblood” of a plant. Essential oils are what help plants heal from damage, and are distilled in many different ways. They’ve been around for thousands of years and are even mentioned in the Bible. In fact, the first time Chris smelled Frankincense, he told me it smelled like church!
Why Young Living?
When I was doing my research and looking around, I looked at a few different companies, but I kept coming back to Young Living. I know people get results from all different companies, and that’s great for them – I encourage everyone to do their own research. In looking at starting use oils in my family, Young Living was the company I felt most comfortable with. They are extremely transparent with the process of growing and distilling their oils (courtesy of their Seed to Seal process). Most of their oils are GRAS (Generally Regarded As Safe) by the FDA to ingest. You can even visit the farms! I could go on with my reasons, but the truth is I just felt in my gut that Young Living was the company for me.
How do I use them?
I freely admit that I’ve become that crazy oil lady, and it’s a big change for me. You see, my mom works in a pharmacy and is extremely knowledgeable about medicine. I grew up knowing how many of which pill I could take for what, and that was always the thing I reached for to get rid of any ailments. Headaches, congestion, tummy trouble – I regularly reached for a pill. Now? I reach for an oil.
I use peppermint on my temples for headaches and a drop under my tongue to conquer heartburn. I put lemon in my water daily to help support my metabolism (I feel lighter on the days I do this). I use tea tree oil diluted on Abbie’s diaper rash, and it’s the only thing that’s made a difference in the nasty one we’re currently battling. I diffuse lavender and cedarwood while I sleep. I made an allergy roll on blend of lemon, lavender and peppermint to help keep the seasonal sniffles away. There are just so many uses I’ve found for my oils, and I am so glad that I jumped in.
One big reason I jumped in? The Facebook group I joined. It really was the most beneficial way to learn about essential oils and Young Living in a no-stress environment, so I’ve created one for any of you that would like to learn more. If you are curious at all, I really encourage you to join – you absolutely don’t have to do anything or try anything in order to join it – just a desire to learn! You can find the group here – I’d love to have you.
As always, if you have direct questions, just let me know – I am certainly no expert, but happy to share what I do know and reach out for support for what I don’t! Another thing I love about Young Living is that you’ve got lots of resources for questions. If you’re interested in getting started, you can order here. I definitely recommend enrolling as a wholesaler with the Premium Starter Kit if you decide to jump in!
This post is not a sponsored. I invested in the Premium Starter Kit with my own money and have purchased all of my oils myself (unless I got it as a promo!). I am passionate about essential oils and am sharing my experiences because I truly believe in these products. Technically, I am a distributor with Young Living, but only because I purchased the Premium Starter Kit to start with and got the wholesale membership – all that means is that I get the wholesale discount when I purchase. So what does that mean for you? Well, if you decide to try out Young Living for yourself, I will get a commission – Young Living is a referral based business. I share not because I want to overwhelm you with salesy stuff ( I know you probably know a lot of people in referral based businesses), but because this is something I’ve truly fallen in love with and I just want to share!
Do you use essential oils? I’d love to hear your experiences!

I use tea tree oil to treat pimples and I LOVE the smell of it!
It works great on pimples!
I definitely want to talk to my man about this and see what he thinks! Essential oils are something I’ve wanted to use for a while now.
Definitely, and make sure you join the Facebook group! I run specials in there from time to time in addition to all the resources… in fact, I’m running an end-of-April one right now!
Thanks for sharing about this! I am still a little too skeptical/too cheap to purchase a kit, but I could see myself purchasing in the future.
Definitely do your research first, and let me know if you have questions! I don’t have all the answers, but I can usually find someone who knows things I don’t!
I have heard great things about these oils as well, but I have yet to take the plunge! Someday though I see myself trying them!
Definitely do your research and let me know if you have questions!
This is great! We recently started using Young Living essential oils too and we can see a difference when we stay consistent with them. I like the idea of the lemon in the water for metabolism. I’m gonna try that! Thanks for sharing! xox
You should – plus it tastes great!
Thank you for sharing about the YL oils…I’ve looked into this myself. xx
Let me know if you need any info!
Love this post! I have been loving my oils lately too, so I’m always interested to see what others are doing with them. I had never heard about using peppermint under the tongue for heartburn…need to remember that!
I know, I love reading about them too! The peppermint seriously takes the heartburn away immediately. It’s like magic.
