I’ve now gotten to the point in life as a mom of two that it’s hard to remember life with just one. Ella has seamlessly blended into our family, and I’m so grateful the transition has been smooth. A lot of that smooth transition is due to just how well Abbie has adjusted to being a big sister.
I have to admit, before Ella was born I was a little bit nervous about how Abbie would do. At nearly four, she had definite personality (and sass for days) and ideas on what she did and didn’t like. She was used to having all the attention on her, especially since she was also the first grandchild on both sides. We did our best to get her as ready as we possibly could for Ella’s arrival, and I think we did a good job… because she’s just blossomed into her role as a big sister.
Every morning when Abbie wakes up, Ella is the first person she asks about. She thinks it’s funny to guess what color her poop will be (ah, four-year-olds). She helps me out when I’m nursing by grabbing me random things just out of my reach – a blanket, the remote, my Kindle. Every time I put Ella on her playmat, Abbie snuggles in right beside her. She’s constantly touching her, kissing her, and showing her videos on her Kindle (sorry Abbie, she has no idea what you’re doing).
The transition has gone better than I ever could have imagined, and it seems Abbie was just meant to be a big sister. Ella already stares at her with wonder, as if she’s already trying to figure out her big sister and just how fast she can be like her. Their relationship so far is everything I could have hoped for.
I don’t know what the future holds for their relationship, but for now I’m so incredibly grateful for these two girls. I love that they have each other, and that I get to watch my girls learn to be sisters.

It’s when little sister starts getting around, and getting into big sister’s stuff that things can get trickier!
The transition has to be a rough one. I am looking forward to how you handle both while working full time. I am awe of your abilities because I’m not sure I can pull it off!
Aw you could if you had to! We all do things we think we can’t pull off!
Yay for sweet kiddos who love each other. Emmy things Cam hangs the moon so I understand how that goes. Glad the girls are getting along so well and Abbie has transitioned with such grace. Cheers to you momma!
Thanks honey!!
Reminds me so much of my girlies and kind of makes me tear up! Gah! So precious.
Thank you! It’s such a relief that it’s been such an easy transition!
She’s the BEST! I’m jealous of her easy transition and acceptance – we’re still working on it over here! 😉
Haha well I would expect no different from Mac!
