This weekend was a busy one. I feel like since going back to work, and now with two kids, our weekends are even more precious to us. We don’t get a ton of family time during the week, so we cram it all in on the weekends. This weekend was also our six year wedding anniversary (on Sunday). We’re not huge gift people, so we opted to just spend time together… and I sweetened the celebration by getting us a dozen Georgetown Cupcakes for the weekend.
Saturday we did our normal routine – Weight Watchers followed by errands. Ella had been fighting a cold all week, so she had a doctor’s appointment just to rule out any infections. That wasn’t until 11, so Abbie and I made a quick solo trip to the store for that day’s essential groceries while Chris stayed home with Ella and cleaned up the mess in the living room from the workweek. a trip to the grocery store. I’m that crazy person that loves
After a super quick trip (and a new coloring book for Abbie because she was amazing in the store), I picked up Ella and took her to the doctor, who confirmed she just had a cold. I normally wouldn’t have bothered, but since I just went back to work I didn’t want to take any chances with daycare saying she couldn’t come. Thank goodness our pediatrician has weekend hours.
When I got back, we had lunch and just hung out for the afternoon… and Abbie just wanted to be near Ella. She’s the sweetest big sister and just wants to be near her all the time, and I can’t get enough of it.
Chris’s parents came over in the afternoon so get some time with the girls and stayed so we could go out for our anniversary once they went to bed. While we could have gone earlier and left a bottle for Ella, right now I prefer to put Ella to bed myself so I can nurse and avoid extra pumping sessions. Chris and I went out after the girls were down and ended up keeping it low key. We were going to go bowling, but there was an hour wait so we perused our favorite used bookstore and got ice cream. We’re kind of boring but we like it that way.
Sunday was our normal family trip to the grocery store. I’m that crazy person that loves the grocery store, and we actually like going as a family – it’s just part of our little routine. Abbie typically gets a racecar cart and I wear Ella in the Solly wrap. It’s actually perfect because she usually takes her morning nap that way, but I’m looking forward to the day they can sit in the cart together – it’s just going to be the best.
We followed that with more sister time and just getting ready for the week ahead. A perfect little weekend – spending time together as a family is the best way I can think of to celebrate six years of marriage. The last six years have been the best years of my life so far, and I only expect them to get better with the little family we’ve created.
