So part of me is in disbelief that today is the first day of August, and the rest of me is just so excited because that means football is only weeks away. Fall and football season are my absolute favorite time of the year, and I can’t wait until it arrives… along with this baby girl of ours that’s due in the fall! I love having a fall birthday, so hopefully this little one does too. The weather on Abbie’s winter birthday always seems to mess up our plans, so I’m hoping the weather will cooperate a bit more for this girl.
In the meantime, we’ve been soaking up as much of the summer as possible, and I’ve finally been playing with my camera in manual mode. Abbie is at the age that it’s so fun to capture her expressions, and it’s right in line with my learning curve with my camera.
Saturday morning Chris went to Weight Watchers before we met my sister for breakfast, and since I can’t be in the meetings right now due to my pregnancy, Abbie and I hung out outside and I got a little bit of practice in.
After that, we headed to breakfast with Melanie (where I really should take photos of the food because it’s amazing every time), before Melanie and I went to the Manassas Farmer’s Market.
I love the farmer’s market, but we don’t go nearly enough – Abbie would rather run around crazily than look at everything, and Chris always ends up being the one to chase her, so it’s better when I can go by myself, or in this case, with my sister. Plus, lots of camera practice!
The rest of our Saturday was pretty low-key – errands and relaxing, just the way I like it.
Sunday we spent the day at my parents’ house to celebrate my dad’s 60th birthday. We’re very lucky in that both my parents and Chris’ parents live close, and Abbie is completely comfortable at both houses. She doesn’t get to see my dad as often as we’d like since he works most weekends, so it’s extra sweet when she gets some time with him.
It also helped that she got my homemade mac and cheese (Ree Drummond’s recipe) since I never make it for just us since Chris won’t eat it (I know, so weird).
She got time outside, time with each of her aunts, time with Grandma and Pop… but I think her favorite part was helping Pop blow out the birthday candles. You would have thought we were singing to her, she was so excited. She kept telling my dad “Happy Birthday Pop!” and even sung to him on her own before we all did. Sometimes she can be the sweetest girl there is.
That was our weekend – how was yours?

I always forget about our local Farmer’s Market. Ridiculous and I need to take advantage before it’s over for the year. 🙂 Sounds like you had a great weekend. Love the photos of Abbie with your dad.
I know exactly what you mean! Luckily ours goes into the fall and that’s when all the Honeycrisp apples come in, so you better believe I’ll be there for those!
Precious pictures, Jess! I totally geek out over Farmer’s Markets. ha. I just love them. I guess it’s because I grew up in the city.
Thanks! Do you have any Farmer’s Markets where you are now?
Yes, we do. It’s tiny, but I love it so.
I love love love going and shopping at local markets. It’s the best way to find fresh goods. I usually buy jams, breads and spices there too!
This time they had pickles that tasted SO much like the ones we get in NY so we bought some for my mom – I always find the coolest stuff there!
Aw, she is just too precious! I’m glad to hear you both enjoyed the market! If you ask me, your local farmer’s market is the best place to get fresh fruits, veggies, and other necessities! Thanks so much for sharing your experience!
It definitely is – can’t get better than local!
