I Always Buy Extra

Sometimes I think I drive my husband crazy. I’m one of those people who always has extra… of everything. Extra goldfish (for Abbie, which of course he ends up eating some of); extra soap, extra paper towels, extra toothpaste. I hate running out of things, so if it doesn’t go bad? I always have extra around and get nervous when the supply runs a little low. My mom is the same way, so I think I get it from her.

Sometimes, I struggle to find space for all that stuff, but other times, I’m pretty thankful I know to stock up on things. Like toilet paper. Anyone else go through it like crazy?

When I got married, I was astounded at how quickly the toilet paper was gone… I mean, didn’t I just buy some? I swear, I think men use more than women! I’ve since learned to stock up way more than needed, and usually shop for it in bulk. Last weekend, I stopped at Sam’s Club and picked up the brand that was always my mom’s choice – Scott tissue.

Sam's Club

My mom always chose Scott (and still does, to be honest) for one simple reason – it lasted the longest. I’m the oldest of 4 kids, so we went through a lot of toilet paper, and that helped my mom keep it in the house and every bathroom stocked up – Because running out of toilet paper is just embarrassing.

So I’ve learned from my mom… and I stock several rolls in each bathroom. As a busy mom, my time is limited, and stocking up helps me avoid additional trips to the store. Less trips to the store = more time with my family doing the things I love.

I also made sure to use one of my favorite coupon apps, Ibotta, which gave me an extra $5 off this huge package of toilet paper…. which will probably not last nearly as long as I want it to.

At least it was a good deal though! After taxes and my Ibotta coupon, this package of toilet paper cost me $22.61, which boils down to 62.8 cents per roll. For that, I think I can afford to keep stocking up on it. Make sure you check out the sale at Sam’s Club and grab the Ibotta rebate while it lasts!

Do you go through toilet paper like crazy, or just my family? It can’t just be us, right?

  1. We stock up on paper towels, toilet paper and dish washing pods and contact solution. Because we need 6 bottles of contact solution!?! And after kiddo I have I go through a roll a week of paper towels. Insanity!

  2. my husband would have to disagree… I go through way more toilet paper than he does ;). As a result, we too have to stock up… It’s absolutely insane!

  3. No, you are not the only one who likes to stock up! I have at least 4 bottles of laundry detergent/boxes of pods, etc. in the laundry room right now! I also buy Scott toilet paper, and I buy the huge package of it as well. My sons go through a lot of it, and I try to keep extra rolls in their bathrooms because they will open the door and yell for more toilet paper! One of our toilets has a bidet feature, so we don’t use much paper with that toilet, but still … We also stock up on groceries – I think I have at least 3 boxes of waffle mix at any time. I’m going to check out that app that you mentioned because $5.00 off is a good deal.

  4. My husband thinks I’m nuts when I go out and buy extras of stuff we already have (like toilet paper)! He also thinks I have a problem when it comes to hoarding cardboard boxes. I HATE when I go to wrap a gift and there isn’t the right size box. It’s ALMOST as frustrating as running out of TP. 🙂
