April 16.

Every year this day brings back a mix of emotions.  It brings back terror, sadness, and worry about my friends, sorority sisters, teachers, coworkers, and everyone else in the Virginia Tech community.  Yesterday’s events in Boston bring me right back to that day.

It also brings back hope.  It brings back love and support.  It continues to remind me of the spirit of the Hokie Nation.  I know Boston and the marathon runners of the world are just as strong.  Together, we will all continue to move forward, but always remember those we lost.

Hug your loved ones a little tighter today, and if you can, wear orange and maroon, or your favorite running shirt.

And live for the 32+3 that don’t have the chance anymore.

“We are strong enough to stand tall tearlessly, we are brave enough to bend to cry, and we are sad enough to know that we must laugh again.” – Nikki Giovanni, April 17, 2007
