Gingerbread and Santa

We had lots of holiday fun this weekend, and I hope you did too! We took advantage of the amazing weather, built our gingerbread house, and got to see Santa, so it was a great two days!

It’s been unseasonably warm here in Virginia lately (like 70 degrees!), so Saturday morning, I took Abbie outside. I would take her to a playground, but she has just as much fun running around in open space… so that’s what we did.

She kept trying to race me in between blowing the seeds off of dandelions. She just discovered them and thinks they’re amazing… but needs a little help getting all those seeds off!

Sunday morning started with homemade pancakes before decorating our gingerbread house! This was the first year we’ve done one, and I think it was the perfect time to start – Abbie was super patient and loved putting the decorations on where I’d put icing, telling me all the colors and shapes she’d picked out as she did it. We used a $10 kit from Costco and it was worth every penny – it came preassembled with everything we needed to decorate!

After a quick lunch, we were off to see Santa. Abbie seeing Santa is something I look forward to every year. We’re fortunate that we get to see him in a smaller environment, so it’s never been too overwhelming for her. She’s typically done great with him, so I wasn’t too worried about this year.

Because it’s at a Christmas party for the fire department volunteers, Santa arrives on a fire truck. Chris took Abbie outside to see Santa arrive, but she was definitely more interested in the truck.

Then came the task of entertaining our almost-3-year-old until it was her turn… and let’s just say I got my steps in chasing her around! Once it was her turn… well, she was more interested in the stage than Santa, and kept saying, “Mommy, help me!” No tears. Just determination to get her way – I wouldn’t expect anything different from her.

Then she realized she was getting a present, and got really excited – “My present! My present!” She couldn’t get the paper off fast enough and was so excited to be greeted with two new Dora and Friends dolls.

No smiling photo… but I’m pretty happy with how it went! Did you take your kids to see Santa yet?
