So, I know it’s Thursday, but I’m going to throw a recap of our long weekend at you. You’re welcome. We filled it with lots of fun things by looking up activities ahead of time, and I was so impressed by how well Abbie handled all the long car rides. Such a trooper.
We drove up early Friday morning. After a stop at Cracker Barrel for breakfast (because, duh), we got to our hotel by noon. Thanks to early check-in, we took it easy and were able to just relax in the room. We all took naps before grabbing dinner at Recovery Sports Grill, which was next to our hotel.
Saturday morning we got up, grabbed the hotel breakfast, then headed out to find the Children’s museum of Utica, NY. It was important to me to find things to keep all of us occupied on the trip, and Abbie had so much fun. There were lots of toys and things to see, including a mini post office, dress up station, and train sets.
We spent the morning there before grabbing lunch and heading over to the reunion. Abbie had fun playing outside and spending lots of time with family – Chris’ aunts and uncles were so excited to see her. I was so thankful for the space outside. I made sure to take a brand new package of sidewalk chalk for Abbie, and we took a few walks too. It was a great way to distract her from the fact she was missing her nap.
Sunday we headed out for some more fun – we went to the Fort Rickey Discovery Zoo in Rome, NY. This place was pretty awesome – as in the deer came right up to the fence to see us. I’ve never been that close to a deer before! Abbie was a little scared, but quickly got over all of that when we got to the playground and ball pit… even if she threw a fit when we left.

We wrapped up the day with a family lunch, naptime at the hotel, some more chalk fun, and a family dinner before turning in and getting ourselves set to leave early Monday morning. It was a quick trip, but we really packed a lot into it. I am so, so proud of my girl and how well she handled it all – she doesn’t typically do well when we take her out of her routine, but she did amazing.
Now, we go back to the grind. How long until Labor Day?
