Stitch Fix #12

It’s time for another Stitch Fix!

 Stitch Fix 12

I’ve been looking forward to this fix all month. With the weather changing, I’m desperately in need of some spring and summer work clothes since I won’t be wearing sweaters anymore. In my note, I asked for work tops with short or 3/4 sleeves, a pair of the Margaret M Emer pants, and a bag if she could find one. Here’s my fix!

 41HAWTHORN Queensland Dolman Jersey Top

Item 1 – 41HAWTHORN Queensland Dolman Jersey Top – XL – $48

I admit, when I get the shipping notification for my fix, I always go in and take a peek at what I’m getting… and was disappointed to see this. I’ve gotten dolman tops in the past and NEVER liked them (see here and here). I have put in my stylist note that I don’t like them too, so I really hate that they keep coming. As expected, I didn’t like this piece. The sleeves are just terrible on me. That said, I did really like the material – it was really soft, and in a different cut would be great. Verdict: Sent Back.

MARGARET M - Emer Jacquard Print High Waisted Cropped Pant

Item 2 – MARGARET M – Emer Jacquard Print High Waisted Cropped Pant – L – $98

I got my first pair of these pants a while back (here) and ended up sending them back. Since I’ve lost weight since then, I asked for these in a  larger rather than extra large, and they fit perfectly (yay!). These fit really well, are work appropriate… and feel like yoga pants. The pattern is subtle and I don’t have anything else like them. I’m leaning toward keeping them, but not 100% sure yet. I’m wearing them in all of these photos. Thoughts? Verdict: Undecided – UPDATE – KEPT!

FUN2FUN Marlena Abstract Print Tab Sleeve Blouse

Item 3 – FUN2FUN – Marlena Abstract Print Tab Sleeve Blouse – XL – $48

This top is really cute – I actually love the pattern and I’m always a big fan of tab sleeves. It’s perfect for work. However, this top just couldn’t contain my chest and was way too snug. It’s a bummer, because if it had fit well, I probably would have kept it. Verdict: Sent Back.

MARKET & SPRUCE Colibri Floral Print Sleeveless Top

Item 4 – MARKET & SPRUCE Colibri Floral Print Sleeveless Top – XL – $44

So this is another item I was leery of when I peeked. I’m not really big into florals, and I had asked for no sleeveless. I still tried it on though… and it’s just not for me. It’s too snug up top (typical) and the neckline is cut a little funny. Just not a winner. I did like the vibrant pink, but that’s about it. Verdict: Sent Back.

URBAN EXPRESSIONS Bridget Woven Detail Bowler Bag

Item 5 – URBAN EXPRESSIONS Bridget Woven Detail Bowler Bag – $48

I really need a new everyday bag, so I was excited to see this coming. Guys, this bag is gorgeous. Bright teal, great detailing, and great price. It also has a crossbody strap and I love those. The only problem? This bag is HUGE. Seriously, it could fit my laptop in there! I’m so torn on this one. I love the bag and think it’s so pretty, but I’m just not sure how much I’d use it. It would make a great bag for the conference I’m going to in June, and any future ones, but I’m just not sure that’s enough usage to justify keeping it. Help! Verdict: Undecided – UPDATE – KEPT!

I’m really torn on this fix. I love the detailing in the bag and pants, but I really needed some work tops and am frustrated by the fact that none of them were right for me – especially after I asked for no more dolmans. I love Stitch Fix, but I’m thinking it’s time to ask for a new stylist – maybe I’ll find one that will get me a little more. What do you think?

  1. I LOVE my Emer pants – I wear them multiple times a week typically (although I’m not doing anything too intense in them so I can get by wearing a few times inbetween washes). And that bag is AMAZING – I would totally carry that everyday.
Do you request the same stylist? If you don’t, I wonder if that would help with not getting items you’ve disliked in the past and asked them not to send.

    1. Well, I ended up keeping both the bag and the pants 🙂 I actually went ahead and sent an email to customer service asking for a new stylist next time, so we’ll see!

  2. I love the pants! I’ve heard that the computer doesn’t recognize ‘no’ very well. So by writing ‘no dolmans’ it actually just picks up the dolmans and recommends it to the stylist. You might have better luck taking that part out all together. I also really love the floral top on you – too bad it’s not a keeper.

    1. I think that’s right, Teresa! I have read that you should use positive statements – i.e. ‘bra friendly tops’ instead of ‘no spaghetti straps’.

    2. I’ve heard that too. To try to get around it, I put an email in to customer service for them to note note to send me any. Hopefully that works!

  3. I love the pants and the bag. Love the bag!!!! I have a big purse and love that it doubles as a diaper bag when I need it to.

The reason I haven’t tried stitch fix — other than not having the money — is I’ve heard too many people complain that the stylists don’t listen to the customer – so they send you stuff you specifically don’t want. That would seriously piss me off, so I don’t even bother. 🙂

    1. See, usually we just carry both the diaper bag and my purse since I’m not with Abbie all the time, but that’s a good point. I did end up keeping the pants and bag.

I actually have had really good luck with Stitch fix and them pushing my style a little. I’ve had the same stylist for the past 7 fixes, so I think it was just getting a bit stale. Hopefully a new stylist can switch it up and match me a little better. I do think it’s worth the try, especially if you’re not a shopper or just plain don’t have time/don’t want to take kids shopping!

  4. I’m going to be honest and say that the only thing I would probably keep from this fix is the purse BUT that’s because I LOVE large purses (since I’m usually carrying spare undies for M and whatnot). It’s probably the uber cheap in me but there is no way I’d pay $98 for pants. I’d find an alternative elsewhere. Speaking of, I was going through Wal Mart last week and found some great work pants for $13. They are soft, breathable and all around awesome.

Just my two cents, friend. Let us know what you decide on!

    1. Haha, so I ended up keeping both… which means I need to wear these pants at least 98 times for them to be worth the price… and I think they will. They seriously feel like yoga pants.

  5. Definitely keep the pants!!! Work pants that feel like yoga pants are NECESSARY. 🙂 As for the purse – it’s so cute, and the size of my every day bag, so I totally say keep it! It doesn’t need to be full to use it! And it is the perfect conference purse. 🙂

I tried a new stylist for my latest fix, and am super glad I did. Getting a fresh take on everything is good!

  6. Pants that feel like yoga pants but are work-appropriate? Holla!
I just got my third stitch fix this week and also found things I would have probably not tried on had I come across it in a store.. Fun how our stylists tend to be more adventurous than we are!

PS.. I realize I didn’t include a card or anything in your Girl Mom Box!! But I was your sender.. Hope you two enjoy!

    1. Thanks! I did keep both the pants and bag! And the box was perfect – Abbie LOVES the chalk and we use those bath drops all the time!!!

    1. Dolmans are just the worst for my body type. And I did keep the pants! 🙂

    1. Aw, thanks – the material was really soft but I just didn’t think it worked on me.

  7. Definitely keep the purse! The price is right, and the color is amazing. Don’t be afraid to request a new stylist if you don’t feel yours is hitting the mark! I went through several bad Fixes before I discovered my stylist (who I think requested to be mine forever!). I have wanted to keep everything from my last three boxes! Keep giving specific feedback in every way you can, and make sure your Pinterest board is an accurate reflection of your taste. If you haven’t already, share the link to your reviews with your stylist. Mine actually reads them!

    1. I did! It’s huge, but I’m sure I’ll find places to use it. I did go ahead and email customer service to ask for a new stylist and no more dolmans. Fingers crossed for the next fix!

  8. I totally understand what you mean about Dolman tops, they are such a weird fit in general! I have one that I like pretty well but it’s not my favorite shirt, it’s just awkward! Love how those pants fit you! I agree with a previous comment that said you could probably find some similar for a better deal, but if they are a really good quality it might be worth it! LOVE the bag, but then I like big purses! One thing I will say for big bags, you may think you won’t use all that room but before you know it you’ll be filling it up, at least that’s how it works for me! 🙂

    1. They are seriously so strange. And I did end up keeping both the bag and pants!

  9. My favorites are the fit of the pants and the print/design of the dolman top. The pants are more than I’d pay, though, and a too tight top is always annoying. My shirts tend to be too tight in the upper arms, and I can chart any weight gain/loss by my shirts! I think the purse is too big, but that’s my preference. Since you asked, I’d request a new stylist if I were you. Hopefully a new stylist would be more in tune with your taste and preferences. Susan

    1. I did ask for a new stylist, so fingers crossed! I ended up keeping both the pants and the bag.

  10. Love that bag! Beautiful color and I think the more room the better sometimes! I personally wouldn’t keep the pants only because of the price, but if you love them and you like the fit, do it! I mean work pants that feel like yoga pants, that is pretty incredible!

    1. It is! I ended up keeping both, so now I’m just telling myself I have to wear the pants a minimum of 98 times…so it’s $1 per time!
