Oh, the silly things we tell ourselves when we don’t know better.
Without a doubt, one of the biggest struggles I’ve had with Abbie as a toddler and now preschooler is what the heck she is going to eat. Champion picky eater over here – something I get to blame my husband for since he was super picky as a kid. We tend to serve her favorites over and over again, but we still find ourselves doing the bargaining thing to get her to eat.
The bites. Almost every day we’re convincing her to take just a few more bites. I know she’s hungry but she just won’t eat. Why do our kids do this to us? One day she refused her dinner completely and then asked for a snack 5 minutes later. No dice, sister.
Lately, we’ve let her choose the number of bites, and that sometimes helps – 3 bites or 5 bites? 5 bites or 8 bites? Occasionally she even forgets what number bite she’s on and I get a little more food in her… by feeding her myself. She’s FOUR. I expect to be feeding my 6-month-old like that, but not her. Motherhood is a trip, isn’t it?
So naturally, I don’t always have the energy to fight her, and pizza is usually a hit in our house. The other day I grabbed a few Red Baron Pizzas and lunch was served. Sometimes you just need to not fight about food. Except I still did, because Abbie was having another picky day and wouldn’t touch her pizza.
Here’s hoping Ella isn’t as picky as Abbie is as she grows up – she could not get enough of her pizza so the outlook is good!
