Our Weekend and the Fever that Wouldn’t Quit

I have been MIA the past few days, much more so than usual. I took Abbie to dance class on Wednesday morning before work, but our busy week was interrupted Wednesday night when Abbie came down with a fever that wouldn’t quit.

The worst part? She had very few other symptoms. She had a little bit of a runny nose (that disappeared quickly) and a cough, but otherwise was her normal happy self. It was the strangest thing. Thinking it was just a quick bug, I stayed home with her Thursday, and when she still had a fever on Friday, Chris stayed home with her and took her to the doctor.

Chris said she was such a trooper at the doctor and so cooperative. I had been a little bit nervous since she isn’t always cooperative at her checkups, but she was great, even for the swap for strep. After a full check, everything was negative – she had clear ears, no flu, and no strep. The nurse practitioner told Chris that there’s a nasty virus going around that just gives kids a fever for 3-5 days… and that turned out to be exactly what she had.

So, instead of all the running around and errands we had planned, we had a stay-at-home weekend. Lots of cuddles, lots of electronics (hey, I had to do something to entertain her), and lots of doses of medicine. We had every diffuser in the house running and just crossed our fingers it would pass quickly.

Well, this virus was stubborn and took the entire weekend with it. We went to bed last night not knowing if this would be a normal workday or not… and thankfully Abbie woke up fever free this morning! While I hate that we lost a weekend of fun family time, I’m so glad she’s better for the workweek – using your PTO for sick days is no fun. Now fingers crossed for an easy week so we can enjoy next weekend!

  1. I’m actually really glad you posted about this because I think this is exactly what BOTH girls have right now. UGH. But, it saves me a trip to the pedi because I suspected it was probably something like what you said. Bleh.

  2. So glad she is feeling better. My sons had similar fevers, but they also vomited and had aches. It took 3-5 days to feel better. I love lazy weekends at home. Errands definitely eat up the weekend!

  3. Oh man I feel so bad! I feel your pain too! We got hit with something like this last month and it killed us for a week and mind you we were on vacation when we got hit. No fun! Hope everyone is feeling better!

  4. Sorry your weekend was hectic. I hope your little girl feels better soon 🙂

  5. Kenley had the exact same thing last week. Not a single symptom outside of a 103+ fever for 3 days. It was rough & is so hard seeing them not their cheery little selves! Glad Abbie is on the mend and you were able to be home with her.
