Today is my husband’s birthday. As Abbie continually insists that we make him cupcakes (green this time, and it took a lot of convincing to sway her from pink), it makes me think of how the way we celebrate his birthday has changed over the years, and how different it was before we were a family of three.
Before we were three, we’d probably have gone out to dinner and a movie – nothing crazy, but a little bit special. Nowadays, we just have family time. We like to spend that time together – so many of my memories from childhood involve family birthday celebrations, and I want to continue that for our family. I think its so important to really take the day to show them just how much they mean to you.
I don’t brag on Chris as much as I should, but I honestly don’t know what I’d do without him. It’s so cliche to say, but it’s so true. He’s the one that keeps me grounded. He’s silly and smart, laid-back and passionate. He calms me when I’m crazy (which is not easy), and he’s just the best dad. Abbie straight up adores him and will do anything to make him laugh… including saying “boogerfarts” repeatedly even though it isn’t really a word.
Chris works so hard and wants to be able to give Abbie and I all the things we want in life. He loves history and has a massive collection of books. He likes wrestling (I know) and likes to point out that my grandfather liked it too so they would’ve gotten along (except my grandfather thought it was real). I already see so much of him in Abbie and am so thankful to call him mine.
So happy birthday, babe – may 35 be the best year yet. We love you!
