Getting Settled

Well, nearly two weeks in, and I finally feel like we’re getting settled into our new home.  Last week was a doozy – getting used to new commutes in the DC area is no joke – but I think we’re getting back into a routine.  Most things are unpacked, I’m starting to decorate, and we’ve assembled some new furniture!  That said, we did spend some time this past weekend exploring our new hometown.

We now live in Manassas, VA in Prince William county, which is about 30 miles west of Washington, DC.  We’re only about 30 minutes away from where we were living before.

One thing that’s great about our new area?  Well, it sounds silly…but shopping.  We’re off a major road, and there are tons of stores – everything from big box stores like Best Buy and Lowe’s to smaller, independent stores – there’s an amazing used bookstore minutes from our house that we’ve already spent a good amount of time in.  The area is a lot like where I grew up – a good mix of more expensive and less expensive stores.  For example – dollar stores.  I love dollar stores.  I never found one where we used to live in Herndon, but I found 2 or 3 in Manassas in the first few days we lived there!  This past weekend we spent some time exploring.

First we went to our new Weight Watchers meeting (this move did a number on us – I was up 2 pounds!) before heading to the Manassas Farmer’s Market.  It’s held every Thursday and Saturday, and there was so much amazing produce…. too bad Abbie was in a mood and only wanted to play with the newspaper boxes.  Weird kid.  I only picked up some local honeycrisp apples and some bell peppers, but I know I’ll be buying more in the future.

The market is really close to the local VRE station, and this cute LOVE sign – it made me wish I’d brought my camera instead of just my phone.

Sunday we took a trip to Ikea to outfit our living room (more on what we chose later), followed by a quick trip to the mall to let Abbie get some energy out.  She’s now discovered riding toys, and I have a feeling I’ll be needing lots of quarters in my purse from now on.  (Excuse her hair being down…Chris wanted it down and I gave in.)Abbie Ride

How was your weekend?  Anything fun happening this week?
