Sometimes I wish that we could all just sit down and have coffee together (or tea, or water, or whatever you drink). I know, it’s such a blogger type of thing to say, but it’s totally true. So what would I tell you if we had coffee together?
I often forget about instagram. Just plain old forget, or just not want to do all the work. A lot of people say its their favorite, but i can’t be bothered to write huge long captions on my phone. And take so many pictures…how do people have so many interesting things to take pictures? If I posted more, it would probably be entirely pictures of Abbie, or the cats, or me at work. Boring!
I got to have breakfast with Courtney on Sunday, and she’s just as sweet in person as she is on her blog. So sad that she lives so far away! (Also, I hate how I always get squinty eyes in pictures.)
I slept more this weekend than I have on a weekend in months…and my body needed it. Thank goodness Chris just told me to go to bed and not worry about things. Love that guy.
I haven’t hung a single thing on the wall in our new house. Not one.
While I’m jealous that Chris gets to stay home with Abbie today because daycare is closed, I did enjoy having ZERO traffic this morning. The unexpected perks of a government holiday around here.
There are so many things to watch on my DVR right now. I have a love/hate relationship with fall TV – so much to watch, so little time!
My birthday is in 9 days, and honestly I forget about it most days. People have asked if I’m doing anything special, and I haven’t even thought about it. It’ll probably just be a normal day around here.
One of my favorite things about living super close to a Costco is the gas prices. I paid only $2.88/gallon on Saturday and it was glorious.
I had to go buy Abbie more leggings yesterday. I thought she had enough, but she drinks so much water she keeps going through her pants at daycare. I’m playing around with the fit of her diapers, but I think she just needs to be changed a little more often. There’s a new baby at daycare, so I think sometimes our provider gets caught up with him. Hence the need for more pants.
College football was much more enjoyable this week since I didn’t have to worry about us. Thank you, bye week.
I have all kinds of posts in my head, but haven’t had the time to get them out. I wanted to try to prewrite some this weekend, but sleeping won out. Sometimes it has to.
Yesterday, I had to yell at Abbie for rubbing her hand on the floormat, then licking it. Toddlers are gross.
In the past two weeks, I hadn’t really tracked my food at all…just kind of logged in to MFP and Weight Watchers with good intentions but no follow-through. I’m hoping to change that this week, and that I’ve caught up on sleep enough that it’ll help change my outlook, mood, and motivation.
The DC Ladies are hosting Blogtober, and I haven’t really been able to link up much. I like to be prepared for link ups, and I wish we had the prompts ahead of time (to be fair, they might be posted somewhere and I just didn’t see them). Today’s is “5 Blogging Tips You’d Like to Share.” It might not be in-depth, but here’s a few:
- Invest in a design you love. It might be custom, it might be a template, it might be one you made… it doesn’t matter. Just make sure it’s clean, easy to read, and something you love.
- Make all your social profiles match. It’s so much easier for people to find you, and for you to remember. All my social profiles are “beingmrsbeer,” and if I were to ever re-brand, that would be the first thing I’d check for. I like everything to match.
- Find a community. It may be a network, a group like the DC Ladies, your real life friends… just find a community to connect with. It’ll both help you grow and make blogging more enjoyable for you.
- For those on blogger, turn off captcha! It’s annoying and it makes people not want to comment. I have two or three blogs I love that I’ll go through it for, but most I won’t. Turn it off! If you want security, I found disqus to be great for blogger.
- Be yourself. People are tired of perfect. You had a bad day? Tell us the story – it may make us commiserate, and guess what – that builds community. Pinterest project didn’t turn out? Show us – we’ll laugh with you. Got an awesome promotion – tell us! We want to celebrate with you. Just be yourself and feel pressure to make EVERYTHING perfect.
Anything random you’d tell me if we had coffee?

How fun that you & Courtney got to meet up! I love when bloggers get together (although I’ve I my find it once)! And I was just at Costco yesterday and could not believe that gas was under $3/gallon! What is this, 2005?!
It was so happy to get to see her! And yes, I LOVE that gas finally went down!
I sooooooo wish all of my social media profiles matched, BUT I started blogging 10 years ago and have gone through several name changes (literally) since then. Plus, I think if I used JessicaLynnWrites for everything (mostly twitter and instagram since they’re the only ones that don’t match right now), it’d be too long, and when you only have 140 characters, I think shorter is better. All that to say, I’m annoyed everything doesn’t match and it’s apparent when I hand out business cards at conferences.
Also, I heart instagram. I don’t even know why since I could easily just post pictures on twitter or facebook. I think maybe I like having all of them in one place? And it’s fun to connect on there, too!
I think yours are similar enough that it still works, but it would annoy me too if mine didn’t match.
I’ve been trying to make more of an effort to check/use instagram…hopefully I’ll get more into it!
Aw love that you met up! I think it’s so fun to meet with other bloggers IRL.

It was so fun!
After college, birthdays just decrease in fun. I was out at Ashley’s parents’ house in Haymarket and used my Giant fuel perks to get gas for $2.78. I talked about it all weekend.

Yay for meeting Courtney! That is so awesome.
Also I had NO idea that the captcha defaults to the on setting so thank you, thank you for the tip!
You are so welcome!
Great point about social media — keep your brand consistent. It’ makes things so much easier when you’re trying to build a following on multiple platforms.
I completely agree with being yourself. I think that sometimes social media and blogs can actually make us feel inadequate because people look so perfect. Their lives seem so put together. It is important to remind yourself that everyone has a bad day and most of the time you’re just seeing the highlight reel. Talking about the good things are great, but no one can be perfect all of the time. Be real! Found you through The DC Ladies!
Yes! I am far from perfect, so to project myself as perfect wouldn’t work, and people would see right through it. It’s easier to just be yourself, flaws and all.
I love IG and would love to see your post more there and photos of Abbie and your cat sound wonderful to me! Love that you and Courtney got coffee! Love you both! and yay for no trafgic days. those were some of my favorite when I had to work 🙂 Great blogging tips too – I had those security things!
Aw thanks, I shall try to comply and post more Abbiegrams! 🙂
Hi! I found you through the DC Ladies Blogtober. I’m so glad I did. I love the tip on the Captcha. I couldn’t agree more that it is annoying. I look forward to following.
Thanks! Glad to have you!
2.88?! Our Costco still has gas priced well over $3! Someday it will go down… someday. *I hope!!*
Oh my gosh, I looooooove instagram! My feed is mostly #miagrams (ha ha) but I love being able to snap a picture and post! I find more time for that than I do blogging (which is a shame since I love blogging so much!) You don’t have to have long captions with the photos, promise 😉
Love that you met up with Courtney for breakfast! I wish I lived closer to bloggers!
Hopefully it’ll go down soon! Near where I work, it’s still over $3, but I live about 30 miles away from work and it’s way cheaper. Fingers crossed for you!
I really need to work harder at instagram. I just feel like my life is so not interesting!
Have you looked for blogging communities where you live? Maybe you could find some close ones (or if you ever visit DC we could meet up, of course).
I feel the same way about Instagram! I’ll do really good with it for awhile and post at least once a day and then I forget about it and one day realize I haven’t posted anything in a week! I agree it can be annoying to type on the phone, and my life is just not that interesting to be able to take tons of pictures of it!
OMG, I’m glad I’m not the only one!
I hear you about Instagram! I’m trying to use it more often, but I feel like I never have enough creative pictures to share.
Seriously, if I was listening to this post I could have written it. I was SO disappointed my hubby got to stay home with Mikey on Columbus Day while I worked. Alas, working momma problems.
Happy to be following!!
Definitely. I think I’m taking Veteran’s Day, though!
